Lettters To Our Daughters August

Dear Daughter,

I find myself very sad this month as I write to you. During the past week reality hit me that we are on the backend of your high school years. You have been driving all summer, but as I watched you drive off to school for the first day of your junior year, I wanted to cry, I wanted to hit the pause button, and I wanted to be happy for you. It was such a wave of emotion that I was not expecting. I have never been the mom who cried on the first day of school. I usually planned a fun day of shopping and lunch out with friends to celebrate the return of a normal routine. This time as you left for school reality hit me! You have friends that are leaving for college this week!

You also spent this summer spreading your wings and having a lot of fun with your friends. From trips to St. Louis, to concerts, to drive in movies, to eating out, to driving around with no destination in mind, you have created memories that will last a life time. So, while I know that you are sad your friends are leaving, remember that it is not goodbye. You will continue to make memories and true friendships last a lifetime and can handle being thousands of miles apart!

Enjoy the next two years of high school. You still have a lot of things to see and do here before you head off to college.

Love,
Mom

  • I have a 2 year old daughter and your letter got me choked up. It’ll be so fast that this day comes. And, I think of it EVERY SINGLE DAY when it’s hard to have a toddler….I think….one day I’ll wish she was here. I will wish she wanted to talk to me more. I’ll wish she wanted to spend more time with me. One day I’ll call and hope she answers. Oh motherhood. Great letter Anne!
