Letters To Our Sons (October)

Dear Son,

I am sitting down to write this letter to you after spending an incredible day with you! I loved watching you as you made pancakes for you and your friend. Your desire to cook and experiment is fun to watch. YOu are not happy using a bisquick mix. That is just too simple for you. Instead you got out the iPad, looked up a recipe and then added your own touch by adding sprinkles to the mix.

After breakfast, we headed out for what I thought was going to be a quick rocket launch. Little did I know that your excitement would be contagious and I would end up spending $40 at hobby Lobby 30 minutes latter so that we could have part two of the rocket launches after me session. Watching you select your rocket and engine opened my eye’s to this new found passion you have discovered. I absolutely love that your classes are sparking interests and you are talking about what engineering careers are available to you in the future. The second round of rocket launches this afternoon allowed me to see the pure innocence of childhood that you still possess. The smile on your face and the laughter along with the screams as you chased off after your rocket put a huge smile on my face. I had so much fun that I will even forgive you for not wanting to have any posed pictures with your rockets…

We finished off our day together by going out for sushi and a movie. While you would not try the sushi that had guacamole on it, you are an adventurous eater and I do not know how many other 14 year old boys would go out for sushi with their mom! The movie “Captain Philips” kept us on our seats the entire time. While I was watching the movie I could see the wheels turning in your head about being in the Navy in the future.

My words of wisdom after our day together are as follows:
Keep dreaming
Keep experimenting
keep trying new things
Keep your eye on the sky
and
never give up!

Love,
Mom
