Annapolis Family Session

Annapolis Family Session

You would think that being a photographer I would be highly organized when it comes to my family pictures… Well, this year was almost a complete failure. I decided that I would have an Annapolis Family session when my daughter was home from college for Christmas. What I did not plan on was the fact that it was going to rain almost every single day that she was home. I also did not realize that there were only 3 days before Christmas where all four of us would be available to get dressed up and take a family photo. So, imagine if you will, it is Christmas Eve and I am watching the radar (not for santa, but rather a break in the rain). I see that there is going to be a break in the rain. So, I call my neighbor who also needed her family photos taken and I ask her if they can be ready in 90 minutes! Of course this is the year that I decided my family would take a “fancy” photo. This meant that there was a lot of you tube videos watched as Cole and Tim tried to learn how to tie a bow tie. Luckily for them, Kayla came to the rescue and Cole had a proper bow tie for the photos and disaster was averted. We loaded up in the car and headed to the Naval Academy where I planned to take our photo on the steps of Bancroft Hall. Imagine my surprise when we arrive to find orange cones on the steps and the doors under construction. Time for plan b…we headed to a walkway I had spotted previously that had beautiful columns on both sides. The rain stopped and the kids behaved…for the most part. We ended up with a perfectly imperfect Annapolis family session! Yes, I would have liked to have had a dry day, yes, I would have liked my hair to have been down, yes, I would have liked to use my original location. But, I would not trade the time with my family and the images that were captured or the fantastic lunch we had with our neighbors after the session. Yes, I went to the local crab house in a sequin dress for lunch on Christmas Eve! Thanks to my neighbor/friend Shawn for pressing the shutter as I handed off the camera. (I can not wait to share the images of her family once her New Years cards go out).

So, to all of you who worry about the perfect outfit, the perfect location and the perfect photo for your family I have this bit of advice. Just relax and enjoy the ride!
