Jaya and Dusty ~ Sindhi Wedding

Earlier this month I had the honor of photographing Jaya and Dusty’s Sindhi wedding in Alexandria, Virginia.  Throughout the two days I was overwhelmed by the amount of love and support shown to the couple and their families.  This marriage was more then just two people becoming husband and wife.  It was about two families blending and accepting their cultures.  The celebration began on Friday night with the Sangeet. Guests were treated to a wonderful meal.  There was a henna station and the music kept the dance floor packed the entire night!

Saturday morning came early for everyone and another long day of celebration was ahead.  Jaya was surrounded by family as she prepared to see Dusty for the first time on their wedding day.  After some time together for photos, Dusty and Jaya seperated as Jaya had prayer time with her family and Dusty prepared for his Baraat . The Baraat is the grooms procession to the wedding ceremony and one again it was full of music, celebration and dancing!

The ceremony space was absolutely stunning!  I loved how the ceremony incorporated the families and was full of tradition.

 Following the ceremony,  Jaya and Dusty had some time to relax and change into their reception clothes.  The detail on  Jaya’s outfits was noting short of spectacular.  I am still not sure how her tiny little body was able to wear such heavy clothes!  All the beading makes them VERY heavy!

 From the performance, to the food, to the music and dancing the reception was nothing short of spectacular!
